Scorpio Mining continues to develop and implement programs that manage health, safety, environment and social responsibility issues.
The Corporation is establishing closer relations and formalizing agreements with the local ejidos on whose land its mineral concessions lie. At every opportunity, employment recruiting is prioritized from those ejidos and the broader community.
Not only is the Nuestra Señora operation the major employer in the community, but a significant quantity of indirect employment results from contract services in trucking, security and civil construction. Other local businesses and service providers are supported wherever possible.
The Corporation has initiated the formation of a committee comprising community leaders. The principal objective of this non-political committee is to liaise with the broader community to identify and prioritize projects that Scorpio Mining can support. The distribution of available financial assistance is decided by this committee and is prioritized towards educational, cultural and community support groups.
Scorpio Mining is pleased to be an active participant in local initiatives determined by the municipal council. Projects that have been directly supported include a pollution awareness and reduction drive, maintenance of community sporting facilities and the provision of water to isolated communities.
