Scorpio Awards Contracts for Pre-Feasibility Level Studies on Nuestra Senora Silver-Zinc Project, Mexico

Vancouver, February 5, 2007 - Scorpio Mining Corporation (TSX:SPM) is pleased to report that the following mining engineering contracts have been awarded for the advancement of the Nuestra Senora Silver-Zinc project located in Sinaloa State, Mexico.

These contracts will be grouped together under one pre-feasibility study, with Genivar coordinating the work and final report. The Company is delighted to have assembled such a high quality and well-respected group of companies to facilitate fast tracking the Nuestra Senora project to a production decision. Timing for the completion of a new resource estimate, metallurgy, mine and mill design and scheduling is estimated for late March / early April 2007.
