Vancouver, January 31, 2007 - Scorpio Mining Corporation (TSX:SPM) is pleased to report additional underground drill intercepts into the new lens discovery peripheral to the north extension of the Nuestra Senora deposit (Reference: January 25, 2007 news release).

Peter J. Hawley, Chairman, CEO reports, "We continue to be very impressed with the extent of the mineralized system. The latest discoveries of multiple high-grade lenses peripheral to the extensions of the Nuestra Senora are the third and fourth new mineralized bodies discovered within a year. Using our model on controls to mineralization, we are successfully building tonnage at very low exploration cost. As we continue to make new discoveries and build on our overall resource, we remain highly optimistic of the potential for a long-term operation at Nuestra Senora."

Table 1 presents new intercepts from the North Lens mineralization. New assay data for the South Lens is pending.

In addition, the cement plant for pouring the various footings of the mill facility has arrived in Cosala, as well as the base of the primary crusher plant, which will be the first piece of equipment installed. To date, the mill equipment has been arriving in a timely fashion, and it is expected that all equipment will be in Mexico by mid February 2007.

Drill hole data in Table 1 reflects down hole core lengths and actual (uncut) grades. True widths cannot be reliably estimated at this time. Further information on the Company and the Nuestra Senora project is available on the Scorpio Mining web site at: www.scorpiomining.com.
