Vancouver, December 6, 2006 - Scorpio Mining Corporation (TSX:SPM) is very pleased to report four additional definition drill hole results from the Sept 9 discovery.

Peter J. Hawley, President, CEO reports, "The Sept 9 and the Hoag zones do not outcrop at surface, but are situated between the Nuestra Senora, Santo Domingo and Santa Teresa deposits, and below the Candelaria deposit, all of which have surface expressions. As the two new discoveries have shown, the stacked thrust faults on the property have potential for hosting multiple mineralized bodies that could be discovered via systematic drilling. Continued success at the Nuestra Senora with the discoveries of the Hoag and the Sept 9 zones confirm the excellent exploration upside for the overall project. Underground development has now cross cut both zones, providing a representative view of the contained mineralization. Underground channel sampling is underway and results will be reported as they are received."

"The Sept 9 Zone is the second new discovery of a major mineralized body on the property since ASARCO was actively mining the Nuestra Señora, Santo Domingo and Candelaria deposits in the 1960's. It is favourably located just 15 metres north of the ramp, with the Hoag Zone located an additional 30 metres to the north. Both are readily accessible for development and exploitation due to their close proximity to the developed ramp. The current upswing in metal prices, especially zinc, also bodes well for the overall project."

Current drilling is focused on the Sept 9 zone and assays results are presented for drill holes NS-UG-06-117 to 120, inclusive. Drill intercepts into the Hoag zone have been designed to determine its location only and the drill will be re-located to another drill bay at a later date to continue with the definition drilling of the zone. Additional results will be published as they are received.

Drill hole data reflect down hole core lengths and actual (uncut) grades. True widths cannot be reliably estimated at this time.

Preliminary plan and longitudinal sections showing the location of the zones relative to the Nuestra Senora deposit and underground workings is available on the Scorpio Mining web site at: www.scorpiomining.com/s/NuestraSenora.asp.

Scorpio recently hosted several site visits for members of financial institutes, mining analysts and investors. The opportunity to view the underground operations, mill site facilities, core logging facilities and various offices was very well received, providing an excellent representation of what the Nuestra Senora project is all about.

Vice President, Exploration & Development, Mr. D. Roger Scammell, PGeo, is the Company's Qualified Person for the Nuestra Senora project. Mr. Scammell is responsible for the current exploration and development program and the preparation of all technical information provided in this release. All technical information for the Nuestra Senora property is obtained and reported under a formal quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) program. Samples are shipped to the ALS Chemex preparation laboratory in Hermosillo, Mexico for drying, crushing and pulverizing. ALS Chemex, Hermosillo then sends the pulps by air-freight to ALS Chemex, Vancouver for assaying. Systematic assaying of standards and blanks are performed for precision and accuracy; check assays are regularly conducted by SGS Lakefield Research. Details of the QA/QC program are available on the Company's website at www.scorpiomining.com.
